If You Feel Taken for Granted in Your Relationship — Read This
It is not a good feeling to notice the man you love slipping into comfort, assuming you’ll always be there, and quietly taking your effort for granted. I’ve been there in my single days, and I’ve coached thousands of women through it. Today, inside my marriage, I feel truly adored — and that’s not luck. It’s because I practice what I teach.
If you’re feeling unseen, under-appreciated, or like you’re the one doing the emotional and logistical heavy lifting — your feelings are valid. And there is a loving, feminine way to shift the dynamic.
💗 Pink Tuesday is happening on 25th November 2025 — one day only.
It’s my annual event where you can get up to 85% OFF my digital self-study programs for relationships (and more). If you want in, you must be on the waitlist:

I’ve helped over 19,000 women worldwide, and more than 1,300 have gone on to create beautiful success stories — engagements, marriages, and revived long-term relationships. Let’s talk about what’s actually going on when you feel taken for granted — and what to do next.
How “Being Taken for Granted” Shows Up
It can look like…
- You plan the dates, holidays, childcare, calendars — and if you didn’t, they wouldn’t happen.
- He’s warm at home but inconsistent with effort — the romance has faded to admin.
- You’ve become the comfortable “always on” giver: texting first, organising everything, picking up the pieces.
This isn’t about blame. It’s about patterns. Humans value what feels precious and scarce, and we minimise what feels endlessly available. When our care, time and attention flow without pause, some partners stop noticing the gift.
The good news? Dynamics can change quickly when you make a few high-value, feminine shifts.
Shift #1: Dial Back the Over-Giving (Lovingly, Not Punishingly)
This isn’t a game. It’s self-respect.
Ask yourself:
- What do I do on autopilot that no one actually asked me to do?
- Where am I over-functioning (reminders, scheduling, fixing, “just handling it”)?
- What could I pause for two weeks to create space for him to step in?
- Let the next date be planned by him. (If he asks, smile: “Surprise me, I’d love that.”)
- Don’t text during his workday “to keep us connected.” Let absence create desire.
- Resist filling every silence with solutions. If something drops, let it drop once — then calmly discuss.
Small experiments:
Why it works: When you stop cushioning everything, you create gentle friction — the kind that wakes a man up to his role again. You’re not punishing; you’re simply stepping out of the manager role so polarity can rebalance.
Shift #2: Re-centre Your Needs (Clear, Feminine Communication)
Women who feel taken for granted are often deprioritising their own needs. First, identify them. Then express them with warmth and clarity.
Try this script:
“I love us. I’ve noticed I’ve been organising a lot lately and it’s made me feel a bit unseen. I would feel cherished if we alternated date planning, and if you could choose and book this week. Would you be open to that?”
Framework I teach:
I feel… (emotion) when… (specific behaviour) because… (impact) Would you be open to… (clear ask).
Examples:
- “I feel lonely when our evenings turn into admin. I’d love two tech-free nights a week — candles, cuddles, conversation. Would you be open to trying that with me?”
- “I feel overwhelmed when I handle all logistics. Let’s split recurring tasks: you own X, I own Y.”
Why it works: Feminine communication is clean. No criticism, no mothering, no lecture. Just heart + clarity + a solvable ask.
Shift #3: Reinstate Boundaries (The Softest Kind of Power)
Over-giving and weak boundaries are siblings. If you’ve slipped into “always available” mode, gently re-draw the line.
Examples:
- “I’m not available for last-minute plan changes unless it’s an emergency.”
- “I won’t discuss hard topics after 10pm — let’s pick it up tomorrow.”
- “I’m happy to host, but I’m not available to organise everyone. If we do it, you coordinate invites.”
Remember: a boundary is what you will do, not what he “must” do. It sounds like self-care, not control.
Why it works: Boundaries restore your sense of safety and self-respect. From there, magnetism returns. You stop chasing. He feels space to lead again.
What If He Doesn’t Step Up?
Two truths can co-exist:
- Great men get comfortable — and often respond beautifully when we shift our side of the dance.
- Sometimes the data is the data. If a man who claims you can’t or won’t meet your core needs after you’ve communicated clearly, believe what he shows you.
Either way, these shifts serve you: they bring peace, clarity, and direction.

FAQs
Isn’t dialing back my giving manipulative?
No. Manipulation hides the truth. Feminine power reveals it. You’re simply stepping out of the manager role and allowing room for him to show up.
What if he gets defensive when I share my needs?
Stay calm, keep it specific, and anchor to your feelings. If he’s emotionally available, he’ll come around once he feels you’re not attacking him — just inviting him back into partnership.
How fast can this change?
Often within two weeks when you combine reduced over-giving, a clear request, and one boundary. Consistency matters.
What if I’m the conflict-avoider?
Start small. One request, one boundary, one changed habit. Progress > perfection.
