When He Stops Making Effort: A Painful Reality
If you have a man in your life right now and he's pulling away from you, I want you to know something: I understand how painful this feels. Especially if everything was going well in the beginning and if he was really into you, making all this effort, pursuing you with enthusiasm and consistency.
And then suddenly, you start noticing the shift. His texts become less frequent. His efforts are reducing. He stopped engaging with your social media altogether. More than anything else, your communication is dropping. The frequency of your dates is dropping too.
Why do men pull away when things seem to be going so well? And more importantly, what should you do if a guy pulls away without destroying your value or pushing him further away?
This article will show you the number one mistake women make when he withdraws and the high value response that actually works.
Signs He Is Losing Interest: What Pulling Away Looks Like
As a dating and relationship coach, I work with smart, successful women who know they are the prize. These women don't chase men. They let men pursue them.
But it's a very different story when a man you like starts to pull away from you.
This situation can activate all kinds of fears and “not good enough” emotions inside a woman. These feelings can then make her behave in ways that lower her value in the eyes of a man and demonstrate desperation or neediness.
The signs from his side of a pull-back pattern:
- Less frequent engagement and communication with you
- Less frequent in-person time with you
- Reduced effort overall
- Emotional distance you can feel

The Fear That Gets Activated When He Withdraws
What happens within you as a woman when you start noticing that a guy you like is pulling away?
The first thing it activates is fear.
We've all been there. We've all liked somebody, invested in somebody, started to build our hopes that maybe this could be the one, this is going really well, maybe I finally found “The One”.
And then when they start to behave in this way, the first thing that comes up is fear. That feeling of abandonment. Neglect. Or maybe that fear of that same old pattern from before repeating itself, leaving a really bad taste in our mouths.

The difficult emotions that surface when a man pulls away:
- Feelings of not being good enough
- Feelings of not being worthy enough
- Feelings of being abandoned
- Thoughts like “Did I do something wrong here?”
- Wondering “Is this the treatment I deserve because I did something wrong?”
- Fear that “He's angry with me”
Even the most smart, successful women I work with inside my Elevate program, my six-month live group coaching program where we help you attract an empowered masculine man, find it really hard to sit with these emotions.
How Not to Act Needy in a Relationship: The Masculine Energy Trap
Here's what I see happen with even the smartest women: when these difficult emotions come up, their response is not to sit with it with love and compassion.
Instead, they rush to being in their masculine energy, thinking: “What should I do? What should I do here? How do I make it better?”

This leads to needy behaviors hat instantly kill a man's attraction. You find yourself always being the one to text first, or you're the one constantly bringing up “where is this going?” conversations. You might catch yourself over-liking all his social media posts or checking his Instagram stories a bit too obsessively. Deep down, you convince yourself that if you just put in more effort and make it crystal clear that you're here, you want this, and you're really interested, somehow that'll get things moving again and bring back the momentum in the relationship.
Stop Chasing Him: The Truth About Effort and Value
Here is the truth that will transform how you respond when he withdraws:
When somebody is reducing their effort in you, you should be reducing your effort in them.
Here is what really happens in these situations. Because all these emotions are triggered, we start to behave in a contrary way. Instead of reducing our effort, reducing our attention, downgrading this person and their importance in our lives, we upgrade our effort and attention for them.

It's almost like: “You stopped pursuing me, so now I'm going to work harder for you and pursue you so that you can choose me and love me again.”
As you can imagine, there is nothing attractive about this. There is nothing powerful about this. It actually ends up making us look desperate and needy for a man's love.
Stop Being Codependent in Love: Have Compassion for Yourself
If you're reading this right now and you see yourself in this equation, where the person you like reduced his effort and you stepped it up, then have compassion for yourself.
Nobody taught us these skills in school or at university. We're just supposed to know how to deal with our difficult feelings, how to attract a healthy man, and how to keep a healthy relationship.
So be kind to yourself because it's very likely that you're learning these skills for the first time.
This is why my relationship coaching for women programs are so powerful. They give you all the scripts, all the strategies, methodologies, and mindsets that you need to adopt and display if you desire to attract a healthy masculine man and keep him in your life. You can find hundreds of success stories from my clients:

What to Do If Guy Pulls Away: The High-Value Response
If you have somebody in your life right now who's pulling away, this is the number one mistake you want to avoid: stepping up your effort for them despite them downgrading their effort for you.
The high-value response in this situation is to proportionately respond to their effort.
This means, if a man has reduced his attention and effort for you, you also correspondingly reduce your attention and effort for them.
Avoid Losing Value When He Backs Off
Now, is this painful? Is this disappointing? Of course it is.
But what's even more painful and even more disappointing is to keep investing your time, attention, and energy in somebody who does not clearly value it.
If you understand by now how healthy men operate, they care about nothing more than pleasing the woman they like. And so if this man is not making even the minimal effort to keep you in his life, you're probably better off without him.
How to Respond When He Withdraws: Let Him Chase Me Techniques
Here's the interesting part that happens with women in my online relationship & dating coaching programs:
When we ask our Elevate clients to downgrade their effort, their attention, their energy from the man who is not giving them his effort, attention, and energy—often these men come back.
If a man is pulling away and you downgrade your attention from him, it is quite likely that within the next 10 days, 15 days, he's going to come back. He'll pop into your inbox, maybe try to see you again, maybe try to have a conversation with you, ask you how you're doing.
Set Boundaries With Men: The Right Script at the Right Time
Now that is a great time to bring up the conversation:
“Hey, I would be happy to see you, however I did not feel like you were interested anymore because I did not see much effort coming from you.”
That's a great script to give. But you can only give that script when a guy actually makes the effort to come back into your life.
If he is silent on you, if he's not responding to your texts, if he's disappeared and doesn't make any effort, giving this kind of script will only make you look more needy and desperate.
Dating Advice for High Value Women: Timing Is Everything
In my relationship coaching for singles program, we talk a lot about the importance of timing things right. The problem with so many challenges that women face in dating today is because we don't know when to say the right thing.
Here are some timing mistakes women make:
Being vulnerable too early: We think we can be vulnerable in early dating. If you're too vulnerable in early dating, it's not entirely in your favor.
Not being vulnerable when the relationship is stable: Sometimes when a relationship is going well, then we find it hard to be vulnerable, even though that is the time to be vulnerable and bond deeper.
Timing is so important in terms of when you reveal your feelings. This is exactly the kind of nuanced dating coach advice that transforms outcomes.

How to Regain His Attention: Restore Connection After Distance
The path to rebuilding attraction after a pull back isn't about doing more, it's about becoming more valuable by honoring yourself.
When you stop chasing and start valuing yourself, everything shifts. You naturally demonstrate high-value behavior and activate the polarity that creates attraction. You give him space to realize what he's losing, and in doing so, you create the conditions for him to pursue you again.
This is how you attract a masculine energy man: by embodying your feminine energy and letting him step into his masculine role as the pursuer.
If he's pulling away from you right now, remember this: How you respond determines everything. The number one mistake women make is increasing their effort when he reduces his. The high-value response is to match his energy proportionately, reducing your attention and effort when his decreases. This isn't about playing games in relationships. It's about honoring your self-worth and refusing to invest in someone who doesn't clearly value you.
Here are your action steps when he pulls away:
- Stop chasing immediately
- Sit with your difficult emotions with compassion
- Reduce your effort proportionately to match his
- Focus on your own life and happiness
- If he comes back, use the script to set boundaries
- Make decisions based on his consistent actions
You weren't meant to beg for love. You were meant to receive it from a man who knows your worth and shows up consistently.
If you need support with these relationship communication skills, Elevate is the program you need to be in. It teaches you exactly how to navigate these situations with grace and power.
